FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WHAT:             Sacramento County Public Health, American Lung Association in California and community partners will release statewide, regional and county-level data on the availability and promotion of tobacco, alcohol and food products in community stores—the first time all three categories have been analyzed together in stores that sell tobacco. The new survey includes findings on:
·       The sale of E-cigarettes;
·       Pricing and types of tobacco and alcohol products being sold;
·       Advertising and placement of tobacco, alcohol and food products in stores; and
·       Density of stores that sell tobacco and proximity to schools.

Thirteen simultaneous regional news conferences are occurring throughout the state to release the survey findings which will kick off the Healthy Stores for a Healthy Community statewide campaign. Public health officials, tobacco prevention, nutrition and alcohol prevention partners are working in collaboration to improve the health of Californians by educating them on how these unhealthy products are promoted to youth and influence behaviors that can lead to obesity, chronic diseases and even death.
